Armor parts' colors.

Armor parts' names are written with different colors, these indicate how the armor parts perform.

________________________________________________
________________________________________________

Grey:

As you begin the game, you ll have a basic rank 1 mecha, all with gray parts. This color provides no additional bonuses. However, the Guide NPC will give you green sets of armor at lvls 1, 7 and 15.

Green:

When you hover your mouse over the green armor parts, you ll notice a light blue paragraph that lists all the bonuses the armor gives. These usually include hitpoints (hitpoints mean +damage in this game, not health), armor/energy shield resistance (they make your armor/energy shield more resistant to damage), moving speed (self explanatory), detecting range (determines the maximum distance at which you can "see" other players and monsters), etc. These bonuses though, will only work if you are wearing all the entire green set. That is, you need to use the green engine, body, head, legs and arms at the same time in order for those stats to apply. The disadvantage here is, that you can get much better bonuses by using single blue/purple parts, which don't need to be in a set in order to work.

Blue:

Blue parts are, depending on their stats, the best parts to use. This is due to 2 reasons: their bonuses work always (unlike green parts, which need an entire set in order to work), and most of them can be upgraded. The process of upgrading parts is called reconfiguration, which I ll explain later on. When a blue part is upgraded, its name color changes to Orange.

Orange:

These parts were originally blue, and became orange after being reconfigured. Orange parts, when fully reconfigured, have their base stats usually a bit higher than those of a part 2 ranks above it. For example, a rank 10 body which has been fully reconfigured, will have all of its stats a bit "higher" than those of a rank 12 body.

________________________________________________

Purple:

These are in some cases better than blue parts, because they possess 2 bonus stats, unlike blues which only have 1. The disadvantage is, purple parts cannot be upgraded, so with enough reconfigurations, blue/orange parts can become more powerful.
Note: the purple rank 19 set parts do not follow this limitation, they are specifically designed to be combined with other rank 19 set parts, therefore actually becoming much stronger.

Ideally, your armor should be composed of blue parts, upgraded to orange, combined to rank 19 gray/blue parts, and finally to rank 19 purple parts.

Thanks for the comment.
Most purple parts around that rank are dropped by the bosses found in the lower lvl instance maps, Exotic Planet (rank 7 and 8 parts) and Space Base (rank 9 and 10 I believe).
Space Base, despite its low lvl requirement, is much harder to complete, has less bosses, and due to the way in which it works, even teams of 3 or 4 high lvl players may need almost an hour to finish it (experienced players can solo EP in around 30 or 35 minutes).
I would recommend you to try in EP first, since the 8 bosses located there are much easier to kill, and they will drop all the 7 different armor parts in this order: core, arms, legs, body, head, body (again), control cabin, engine.
As for quest, I honestly cannot remember them all. I believe the Guide npc gives you a free purple rank 10 engine and control cabin when you reach a specific level, but I cant remember very well.

Oh the drop rates for those parts aren't really high, so you may need to do quite a few runs before finding what you are looking for. All bosses in there drop purple parts though.
